Mitch Foster (Shows I Go To publisher/editor/writer) has me convinced. New Orleans alternative rock band, Mutemath, just announced a show at the State Theatre in St. Pete (thanks to No Clubs!), and after his school girl-like admiration, how could I say no? The show isn’t until February 20, 2016 (yeah, apparently 2016 is something that’s happening soon), but search your couch cushions now, because tickets are on start October 30. Enjoy.

For now, let’s focus on Mutemath in 2015. Their fourth album, Vitals, is out November 13 (Pre-Order at Mutemath.com). From that album, three songs have been released with my personal favorite being “Monument.” Ten seconds in, the song virtually explodes into a pop sonic boom with layers upon layers of vocals, guitars, and keyboards, building into a mountain of color, not unlike Vitals’ cover. Then, poof. All of this sound is sucked away, and we are left with a minimalist verse.

This kind of dichotomy is certain to make Mutemath’s live performance an experience to be had. Pulsing sound will push the crowd from gentle head nods to pounding thrusts. There will be moments to rest easy, but be let’s be clear, it won’t last long.
