NEW MUSIC MONDAY: Marian Hill ‘Unusual’

by • May 14, 2018

Marian Hill is a vocalist/producer duo from Philadelphia. Singer Samantha Gongol and mastermind Jeremy Lloyd have been taking their listeners for a smooth rides on luxury beats since 2015.  You may know them from their huge song, “Down.”

On May 11, 2018 they released their 3rd album, Unusual

This ten song collection features patient beats from Lloyd and clean cut vocals from Gongol.”

The first song that sets off this album is “Wish You Would.” Lyrically it focuses on a distant lover and its track houses clicks, snaps, and a synthesized harp riff which keeps you coming back for more. The highlight of the song comes in minutes later when Lloyd turns up the bass and remixes Gongol’s voice in glitchy matrimony. “Listening,” featuring Saxophonist Steve Davit, is another gem in their treasure chest. It’s massive bass and mousy mandolin make for an amazing foundation. Her glitched voice and his calm and composed beats are intoxicating.

Drunk off their music, they continuously pull the beat from beneath me. Sending me stumblin’, only to scoop me up again on our way to the next set of bars.

This album is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Marian Hill’s Unusual.
