I need everyone here to turn the f*ck up.“
Paul Jason Klein commands the crowd at Backbooth last June of 2016. The young girls squished together on Pine St. oblige quite loudly.
The hystericals have a bigger space to fill this year, though. The three piece from LA switch out Backbooth’s quaint stage for a SOLD OUT Beacham space on Orange Ave.
Both floors are packed in the downtown Orlando venue. I haven’t been on the balcony for a show since St. Paul and The Broken Bones in 2015.
It’s Beatle-mania.
The band’s trajectory has been nothing but a crescendo from Spotify’s sweethearts to selling out 1250 cap venues. Their first hit “ILYSB”, which has over 76 million streams, is still a fan favorite, but the new self-titled full length album has quickly reached the tops of the charts, too.
It’s music dripping in sex, or, sex-drenched music…? The line is blurred, as is your vision when trying to take in all the pale pink lights, Valley aesthetics, and sweaty bodies onstage. Back to the Beatles-mania.
These boys induce heart palpitations like cheap candy necklaces. Pure saccharine, relevant jargon each tween texts on a daily basis. They meet their fans amidst the ether of “…” and “Read at 6:59pm.” LANY finds connection in a disconnected generation. Frustration felt from being ghosted on a Friday night brings each jilted lover to the floor of a LANY show. Come together in the communion of the lonely. Drink from the cup of “Super Far.” Take a bite of “Good Girls” and make it so.
These fans are finding solace in the honesty they seek in their own lives. Stigma surrounds over-posting or living a life online, but LANY turns the woes of millennial whining into a place of refuge. Who cares if they never texted you back? Dump that f*ckboy! You’re with all your friends on a Monday, stepping on each other’s toes, laying flowers down at your new lover’s feet.
Roses bloom & wilt. Hearts mend. LANY finds a peaceful sonic ground in between.
