Munsick grew up on a ranch, living amongst the rocky mountains in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was the youngest boy of three. Driven by his admiration for his father and siblings, Ian’s love for music began by the age of four when he first laid hands on ivory keys. By age 10, Ian was already strumming on stage with his family band — his two older brothers, Tris and Sam and his father Dave “Bingo” Musnik.
In an interview with People Magazine, Musnik reflects, “We played everything from bluegrass to western swing to The Beatles to Ray Price.” He learned any instrument he could get his hands on from the piano, to the guitar, to mandolin, the fiddle and so on. He stated that he knew from a young age that he wanted to bring “that piece of Wyoming to the rest of the world.”
Prior to high school, Ian left Wyoming and moved to Colorado Springs before returning to Wyoming to attend Sheridan College for one year. Following his heart, he moved to the well-known country music hub, Nashville, Tennessee where Munsick attended Belmont University in which graduated with a double degree in songwriting and music business.
Munsick always felt that there was a disconnect with the music he was hearing on the radio vs the type or music he grew up on in the rocky mountain region. He wanted to make songs that reflect that love for the hard work of working on the ranch, a love for God and songs about love. Ultimately, his charming tenor voice allows for anyone to get sucked into the homey feeling that comes with singing his songs that praise the mountains of the west coast countryside. He is known for top hits such as “Long Haul” and “I see Country” off of his 2021 album Coyote Cry as well as new single “Long Live Cowgirls.”
