Iâve been accused of “drinking the Kool-aid.” “Every time I see you, Sarah, you look like youâve drunk a little bit more,” a close friend jests. This is in reference to what he calls, my unusual smittenness with Florida. Itâs true. Thereâs something about Florida and crossing back into its boundaries that feels like slipping into your own bed after a weekend away from its comforts. Hoyle feels like Florida. They sound like trips to its many secret springs, ever-growing depth as you dive deeper. They sound like Floridaâs coast; a little dangerous but an inevitable warm invitation to venture out. Yet, they could be likened to its many theme parks as well, a mass appeal for people to feel the ease of youth and pure joy. An escape.
These Orlando natives have mastered the existential indie genre. Each track could be effortlessly put over reels of Elle Fanning sitting in a diner on the edge of town, $22 in her pocket, a stow-a-way from a hard home life. And equally the same at the end of the film when she finds solace in her own journey, running down a dark road, the only certainty being the uncertainty of where sheâs going. Hoyleâs Simple Pleasures EP creates an environment in which the mantra is not to question, but to live. To enjoy. The three track release came this past April and is sure to fuel many Summer road trips down the Space Coast or further onward towards the Keys. The boys — Nathan Beam, Patrick Chin, Corey Chin, and AP Harris, — paired the first song off the EP with a visual, an ode to Florida. Their bright guitars and high tones are right at home with shots of backflips off the side of boats into blue waters. Theyâre bringing their sunny sound to Willâs Pub with -kids-, Brother Hawk, and Blonk. This a bill not be missed. From start to finish youâll feel right at home.

I heard they might be serving Kool-aid. Itâs okay, Iâve got my own. Hoyleâs got me feeling that perfect amount of tipsy, like catching the eye of the person youâre starting to fall for across the room and feeling like if you danced all night with them, closer, closer … it still wouldnât be enough. Scared and safe. Florida, youâre my girl. Drunk off your love. Hoyle says it best in “Warm Gun” …
