The first time I saw Have Mercy was a couple years ago in the shell of an old Italian restaurant in College Park when they were on tour with Turnover and Koji. The place didn’t have a dedicated stage so the bands were playing at eye level and the only lighting was a neon beer sign that hung crookedly on a far wall. They played with controlled power, as far and loud as they soared into a chorus it was swiftly toned back down for a breakdown moments later. The undertone of restlessness and regret pulled us into a huddle on the checkered floor, breathless and exchanging “did that just happen?” looks.

Since then, I’ve made it a point to see Have Mercy every time they’ve come through Florida. They played before Knapsack at Fest 12, went on tour with Neck Deep, but now they’re back and they’re headlining this time. Huzzah! Hey dudes: Welcome! It’s warm here and we have a lot of pools. 🙂

Have Mercy’s next show in Orlando is this Friday at the Backbooth. It’s only $12 to see them with Weatherbox, You Me and Everyone We Know, Head North, and Henrietta.
