I’ve seen The Front Bottoms three times in Florida now — three different venues, three different cities.

There is no such thing as “getting enough” of The Front Bottoms. The limit does not exist. My cup is never full.

Their latest album Going Grey is a tad of a departure from previous work, but still expounds upon their foundation of sentimental lyricism. Catchy choruses and great horns throughout should make for a very enjoyable live experience. I’m still hoping to be scraped off the floor by my friends or some nice stranger after TFB play 2011’s Self-Titled brain scraping “Swimming Pool” and I melt into a cortex mess of pre-pubescent proportions. There’s just something about,

I am permanently
Preoccupied with your past
I’ve been around long enough now
To know that the good things never last
They never last.”

which renders me useless goop.

Every single show is full of rejoice and reclaim of days past. Now, we use our new bodies to dance to the music. Shedding skins on our way to the bathroom, outside the venue in real light. Or moonlight, perhaps. The New Jersey bred band always puts on a cathartic performance riddled with shouting, crying, general fuckery and carrying on.

It feels right to see The Front Bottoms in the fall. Granted, Florida doesn’t have the autumnal color scheme which tends to envelop every FB song (a feeling of crimson unease), but it is 61 degrees so, we’re bundling up. Basement and Bad Bad Hats are joining them on tour and could not be more of an ideal pairing. Both bands offer up honest lines and rock betwixt indie and punk.
