Emmylou Harris is an American singer/songwriter and musician who has released dozens of albums and singles over the course of her career. Harris has been performing since her teenage years, where she was scholarshipped into the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she began to study music and learn the songs of Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez on guitar. She dropped out to pursue her love for music full time and moved to New York City where she embraced folk music by performing in coffeehouses during the 1960’s. In 1975, her first breakthrough debut entitled Pieces of the Sky put her on the map. Some songs released on this album are still known to be her most popular and best to date. The rest was history…..

Well, not really. Harris went on to release a multitude of singles, albums, and collaborations. She has done everything from solo performing (recording more than 25 albums), being a bandleader, an interpreter of composers, songwriter, back-up vocalist, duet partner and more. She has collabed with well known artists such as Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, Gillian Welch, Willie Nelson, Don Williams, Alison Krauss, Simon and Garfunkel, Linda Ronstadt, Hank Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix….need I go on?

Despite being a phenomenal well-known musician, she has been continuously awarded with such praise. Over her years of performing, Harris has been awarded with 14 Grammys, the Polar Music Prize, has won Album Of The Year for her 2001 Contributions to the soundtrack for the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou,” has been inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2008, and has been presented the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She is one of the few in pop/country music to have achieved such honesty or revealed such maturity in their song writing. Over the years, Harris has shared her wisdom that comes with getting older but has never stopped looking ahead. In a quote by Emmylou Haris herself, she states, “I’m blessed to be able to work at something that I’m good at, and that I love. It’s not something I take for granted.”
