It’s the year 2060 and our Galaxy is doomed. We have one hope and they’re set on bravely exploring every edge of the galaxy.

In reality, it’s 2017 and I’m sitting in the makeshift practice space of the newly minted band Electric Dawn, formerly Locus of Chiron. I wasn’t even sure I pulled into the right place when I was greeted by storage unit like buildings late on a Wednesday in September. The heavy door swings open after a tentative knock on my end and I’m soothed by the familiar smile of Josh Jauz, drummer/vocalist for the three piece.

Foam pads hodge podge the walls; as if they could stop the sound crashing out of Jauz’s intricate drum set, or quiet Eric Seibt’s epic cries, or soften John Panacciones’ leading bass…

These three may not be actually saving the galaxy but they may be saving Prog Rock.”

Each musician has had their hand in creating a niche in the Orlando music scene over the years, which has helped build the genre-bending sound they’ve become known for. Jauz has been in a slew of bands in his more than ten years as a musician including, Lanterns, Public Jones (touring), StarLake, Swansinger. Vocalist/guitarist Eric Seibt was previously a part of The Manic Masquerade and Max Rebo, while bassist John Panaccione comes in with the longest resume: Etchet in Stone, Keith T and the Truth, Last Ditch Effort, Midsummers Fire, I Woke Up Early for my Funeral/Forever My Funeral.

After being in various outfits all these years, the guys learned a thing or two about what makes a band stick around and catch people’s ears. They changed their name so people could remember it more easily and also pronounce it. Their old moniker, however, is the name of their new album so as to keep people in the same frame of mind as they move forward as Electric Dawn.

Electric Dawn is dynamic because we are fusing the time signatures and technicality of Prog and Math Rock with the sound and grooves of Stoner Rock and Doom.”

John Pannacione Electric Dawn Locus of Chiron Album Release Show Will's Pub Orlando FL 2018

They began playing the album all the way through and my pen attempted to keep up as best it could. Violent, almost illegible scribbles was all that was left after the six track, 40 minute set of sheer sludge consumed me.

In the story, we, the three man crew, blast off in Prometheus, excavate and discover something in Titan (we purposely never say what it is we actually discover), start the trip home and breakdown in Centaur, have epic panic attacks and eventually repair broken ship and escape the Circle of Violence, undergo the long journey and barely survive in Odyssey, and arrive home and share our discovery with the world in Stolen Fire.”

-Josh Jauz

The record is meant to be played straight through, as it takes you on a journey, their journey, to navigating a new world. Sci-Fi is not a new concept for the three musicians but this concept is one they’ve been toying with for a while. Every track is a movement of epic musical proportions, and transitions you to each obstacle the characters take on.

The track list for Locus of Chiron is as follows:

  • Prometheus
  • Titan
  • Centaur
  • Circle of Violence
  • Odyssey
  • Stolen Fire

They recorded the album at Porch Studio in Altamonte Springs, FL where both Audiotopsy and Soulfly have made records. The song titles themselves bring you to a certain frame of mind, help prepare you for the saga ahead. The group has already released “Circle of Violence” ahead of the album as a sneak peek, and it’s a doozy.

Electric Dawn are ushering in an exciting new brand of music to our scene with an innovative science-fiction concept record set to blow you away. The album release show features a STACKED bill of incredible locals including One Drop, Fayroy, and Gary Lazer Eyes, all taking the best stage in town, Will’s Pub.
