E-TURN & DJ SPS Live Review – ‘ESP’ Album Release | The Social Orlando | July 10, 2015

by • July 17, 2015

The word of the night could have easily been pegged as “emotional.” While on stage, in the middle of her performance (alongside her partner in crime DJ SPS on the ones and twos), local darling emcee E-Turn poignantly revealed that in the process of creating the new album, ESP, she went through some very personal and life-altering experiences. You could hear it all night in her ferocious delivery as she stalked the stage and moved the crowd as only she knows how to do, with the help of SPS, whose cuts and scratches at the precise moment of impact remain unparalleled. The ESP album release wasn’t merely meant to be a party or a concert. It was an extension of the wholly intimate album listening session earlier this year. It was a gathering of extended family. The Social was essentially turned into somewhat of a temporary musical therapy session.

Clad in all black and sporting the Swamburger-inspired T-shirt featuring the visual character from the new album, and draped in shimmering head dress/crown, E-Turn showed why there are so many people rooting for her and SPS. With each passing song, the level of intensity, power and candor grew more and more. From start to finish, E-Turn clearly wanted to set this show up so that it hit the audience in the heart and made a direct impact.

The new ESP album is Hip Hop through and through as E-Turn performed new tracks like “Azar,” “Feel Free,” and “Make It Anyway” that may not have been heard before by the crowd, but contained themes of personal redemption, relationship woes, and the constant struggle within to find meaning throughout all of life’s ups, downs, and messes. And though disciplined in her stage presence and impeccable with her timing of lyrical delivery, E-Turn made a point to continually express to the crowd how much she appreciated each and everyone coming out and supporting the show, even at one point giving several high fives and pounds to people at the front of the crowd.

All in all, the ESP album release performance made itself out to be yet another reason to have lots of love to the Orlando Hip Hop scene. Because no matter what a well-known Hip Hop artist like E-Turn might be dealing with, she knows to give that love right back to the fans, and sometimes twofold. The new ESP album is available now.
