Forming in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996, they have released 11 studio albums, with their most recent being This Machine Still Kills Fascists in 2023. Their music is a combination of 1977 era punk rock, Irish folk songs, and old-fashion working class rock ‘n’ roll. Roll all that up and toss in a heavy cup of New England pride and you’ve got a stiff drink called the Dropkick Murphys. They are probably best known for their song “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” from their gold selling 2005 album The Warrior’s Code. Fun fact: every permanent resident of Boston, Massachusetts is required by law to know the full lyrics to this song. Ask one you know!

The band isn’t just about getting drunk with your lads and causing a ruckus though, lead singer Ken Casey has said, “Our music is a reflection of the people who make it and the places we come from. It’s a combination of the joys and sorrows of our lives, the highs and lows. We take all of that and put it into our music.” When asked about inspiration he says, “I’m inspired by the stories of the people around me. I draw from the strength and courage of the people I meet. I think that’s what makes Irish music so powerful and why it resonates with so many people.”
