The legendary and infamous Dead Kennedys are screeching onto the scene June 18th at Jannus Live in St. Pete (TICKETS HERE). You read that correctly. THE Dead Kennedys are back on tour supported by the bands Nekromantix and The Venomous Pinks for one night only, rain or shine, in Tampa Bay.

It’s obvious to me the problems we face today have plagued America for decades. Soulless consumerism, police brutality, social injustice, extremist Nazis, censorship, and war hungry companies lining their pockets with bloodmoney. In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, the youth of America grew restless and desired a voice to shed light on the social and political monstrosities taking place. Enter: The Dead Kennedys. Often named one of the founders of hardcore punk, they screamed, bashed, and preached their message of anti-establishmentarianism so loud their ideas are still as relevant today as they were over 40 years ago.

As I sit here writing this article, it is growing increasingly more difficult to find the words for what The Dead Kennedys have accomplished through their art. Personally speaking, they are the most influential band to bring up issues of war, consumerism, and “The Man” in general. They looked at the state of the nation with a crocodile smile, took a meaty chomp out of the establishment as we know it, and proceeded to death-roll without mercy. Without them, bands with the same disdain like System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine would not exist. Even if you don’t agree with their message, you still have to admit they embody the original rebellious spirit of rock and roll. To me, they are not only one of the greatest punk bands of all time, but their music gave rock the hearty kick-in-the-ass it desperately needed in the midst of new wave and overly produced artists trying to get their 15-minutes of fame. Do yourself a huge favor and see one of the most influential voices in music history, The Dead Kennedys!
