Collective Soul preview

It’s been 22 years since the band’s first album Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid was released in 1993.  Ed Roland (lead vocals, rhythm guitar and primary songwriter) created the band somehow by fate in the years before. After several music projects in Atlanta’s underground music scene, he recruited some musicians to record a demo in a basement, intending to sell the songs to a publishing company with no immediate plans of forming a band. The song “Shine” gained attention from college radio airplay and was eventually passed along to 101.1 WJRR here in in Orlando where it soon became the station’s most requested song, helping Collective Soul to break into the industry and leading to many more radio hit songs including “December,” “The World I Know,” and “Where The River Flows.” Check out the live performances of “Where The River Flows” and “Shine” from Woodstock 99!

It’s been six years since the band’s last album, Collective Soul, was released, which is also known as Rabbit to differentiate it from the band’s 1995 album of the same name.  The band needed the long deserved break, and over the last few years have focused on their side projects. Ed Rolland (founder and frontman) launched his Sweet Tea Project while guitarist Dean Roland made an album with his Magnets & Ghosts and bassist Will Turpin released an EP and a live set with his band The Way. Also during this time span, Johnny Rabb joined the band in 2012 replacing Cheney Brannon, and guitarist Jesse Triplett joined last year replacing Joel Kosche, who had been with the band since replacing original lead guitarist Ross Childress in 2001.
