I’m not going to lie, I have no idea when the last time I saw Circa Survive play (with Anthony Green) was. I hauled ass from work to get to House of Blues, went to the Box Office to pick up my ticket, was pleasantly surprised that my loge ticket was not general admission. I had an actual seat this time! I booked it to get upstairs. My seat was dead center. I was SO EXCITED!!! I saw the last couple of songs of RX Bandits. Including the one where Anthony joined them. 😀 Such a good segue way into the set change. 😉
I was ecstatic for Circa Survive’s set! Senior year of high school replayed in my mind: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Being the album’s anniversary tour, Juturna was of course played in its entirety. “Holding Someone’s Hair Back” had an extended intro. It pumped the whole house up. Once again, there really wasn’t much need for Anthony to sing. The crowd overpowered him. It was incredible! Anthony’s energy was ridiculous! The stage presence of the entire band was contagious. Everyone, and I mean everyone fed off one another.
Personally, the highlights of the night were the glowing oversized balls the loge crowd was given to throw into the floor during the end of “The Great Golden Baby,” the confetti cannons going off at the perfect moment during “Oh, Hello,” and my absolute favorite, the solo acoustic rendition of “Meet Me in Montauk.” The three-song encore was magical: “Suspending Disbelief,” “Handshakes at Sunrise,” and “House of Leaves.” I was on cloud nine because all three were included.
I wish I could relive the show every night. Just thinking about it puts a huge ass smile on my face and gives me all the feels. That show gets me going for Saosin in March. I can’t wait for round two of Anthony Green!!
