The Marinade with Jason Earle podcast welcomes BJ Barham of American Aquarium for our first episode! The Marinade is a free-flowing conversation about creativity with creative people. After years of interviewing and writing about artists, we realized that so many great nuggets of wisdom, funny moments, and interesting stories were either cut from the written piece or did not make sense in the context of a story. Thus, The Marinade was born.

Our aim is to provide a place where artists can open up about their creative process. We wanted to create a forum for tangents about art, love, sports, family, whatever inspires our favorite creators to do their thing.

BJ Barham of the band American Aquarium has long been a favorite of this writer and many others at Shows I Go To. So we were thrilled BJ took the time to talk with us during his Great 48 tour, becoming our very first featured guest on The Marinade with Jason Earle.

Barham, his wife, and their dog Bueller played 53 shows in 59 days last summer, covering all 48 contiguous United States. Never one to rest, Barham took a few days off from that run then hit the road with the new lineup of his band American Aquarium.

Right about the time he arrived in Iowa, midway through his epic solo tour, Barham took a few minutes to talk with us about his creative process, the experience of stopping in national parks across the country, how amazing his fans are, and why hipsters are not all bad. It is a wide-ranging conversation that exemplifies what you can expect from The Marinade going forward.
