In May of 1995, I listened to a radio show called “Modern Rock Live” in which Art Alexakis was there to promote the release of Everclear’s second album Sparkle and Fade. At the time I was not familiar with any of Everclear’s work but over the course of the two hour show I was definitely convinced that I needed to check them out. Art told stories about how certain songs came about, talked about addiction and took questions from callers around the country. I still remember the three songs they played that sold me on the album “Heroin Girl,” “Heartspark Dollarsign” and, of course, “Santa Monica”. I had recently been given a CD player but had yet to buy a CD so the next day I went my local Sam Goody and bought my first CD, Everclear’s Sparkle and Fade. Art Alexakis is about to embark on a short solo tour and High Dive in Gainesville has Florida’s only date (win tickets below). Art will be preparing for Everclear’s annual Summerland Tour this summer which features The Toadies, Fuel and American Hi-Fi.
An Evening with Art Alexakis will feature Art performing some of his greatest hits throughout the years while telling stories about his career. He is even taking song request via Twitter using @artalexakis. He might even play a few songs off the upcoming new Everclear album, Black is the New Black. This is a rare chance to see Art Alexakis perform in an intimate venue.
