Random Dude: “You’re amaaaaaazing!”
Allison Weiss: “You’re drunk.”
Random Dude: “Woooooo!”
That’s pretty much how my Saturday night started off at The Social for the “Sorry State of Mind Tour.” The amazingly talented Allison Weiss was on stage and talking to the above fan between songs. Clearly, this fan was feeling quite fine and was not holding back on how he truly felt.
I’d never seen Allison play before, but I’d heard a track or two of hers. I also had been informed that she is awesome live … Let’s just say I was far from disappointed, but still a little mad at myself for not doing my homework. Shame on me.
If for whatever crazy reasons she can’t “make it” in the music industry, she will definitely “make it” in the comedy world. Aside from her powerful and real lyrics, she is funny as hell. Anyways, back to her music … I have a total girl crush on her now. 🙂 She just makes me feel all the feels. Allison Weiss is effin’ awesome, and I am most definitely a lifer now.
P.S. Congrats to Allison Weiss and her fiancé on their engagement! Yay for marriage equality!!! Allison also covered Swedish pop-star Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend,” and it was magical. Garrett and Mitch talked more about Allison’s set (and her music in general) in our latest podcast. Give that a listen!

Anthony Raneri … he’s so fckin rad! Garrett and I met him while he was manning his own merch booth before his set. After listening to him front Bayside for the last 15+ years, I had to make my way over to say hi. We chatted for a few minutes. I had a fangirl moment. He was chill with it. 🙂 I’m from Long Island, so it was great to see someone from back home. During Allison’s set, she was raggin’ on him, saying the “pizza is not a meal!” Sorry Allison, as a half Italian (by adoption and close family friends), I agree with Anthony, pizza is a meal. Pizza counts as any and everything. Pizza in the states is a little different in Italy (that’s another story), but I’m #TeamAnthony on the pizza=meal debate.
I’ve seen Anthony play many times solo (more recently in the Acoustic Basement tent on Warped Tour), so I knew what to expect. This time was different though. I’ve followed him on social media for a while, so when he would talk about his personal life, I knew what he was talking about. I felt connected to Anthony. Not really sure if that’s a Long Island thing, or an avid fan thing. Seeing him play in an intimate setting, surrounded by fans just as into as myself, was the cherry on top. We (the crowd) definitely out sang him.
Honestly, Anthony just needed to play a few chords on his acoustic guitar, and we would’ve taken care of the rest.
Overall, there was magic and so so so so much love in The Social. Anthony played a good mix of songs. He switched between his Bayside and solo material, and even threw in a Death Cab For Cutie cover. Many apologies for missing Tiny Stills. I’m more than sure that Kait kicked ass! The entire tour lineup is amazing, so how could I doubt Tiny Stills’ talent? And, I hope all is well with What’s Eating Gilbert! I know you guys are great people, so I hope everything is working out!
