Alina Baraz was born on September 24th, 1993, in Cleveland, Ohio to Russian parents, where she was surrounded by music from the moment she was born. Her parents, who are trained in classical music, surrounded her with sounds of the past while on her own she began to discover the sounds of the present and the future. With classical music being a staple of her home life, she began to find a home in a soulful pop sound. As she grew the voices from Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae and Adele began to take a hold on Alina and shape her future sound. Alina’s first song, “Roses Dipped in Gold,” was released on April 15, 2013 at the age of 19; it was this song that ultimately pushed Alina and her family to move to L.A. where she would pursue her career as a singer/songwriter.

When Alina moved to L.A. it only took her two years before her first full length EP would be released and take the music industry by storm. In 2015, Alina in collaboration with electronic producer Galimatias released Urban Flora; a beautiful symphony of soulful electronic music that makes you want to close your eyes and float away. In 2013, before the conception of the EP, Alina had found one of Galimatias’ instrumentals online, wrote lyrics to the track and put the song on SoundCloud. Galimatias found the song and fell in love with how her voice coupled with his instrumental sound. Over the two year period, the two created Urban Flora by sending vocals and instrumentals to each other online before they had ever met. On May 19, 2015, as the age of 21, Alina and Galimatias released Urban Flora on a commercial digital release, and watched as it reached number 111 on US Billboard 200 and number 2 on the US Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Shortly after the release of the EP, Alina signed a record deal with Mom + Pop Music.

In 2017, Alina released “Electric (feat. Khalid)”, her first solo single and her first work since the release of Urban Flora two years prior. The song showcased the growth in her voice and the extended depth in her lyrics. Following “Electric”, Alina released two more singles, leading up to the release of her first solo EP The Color of You. With the release of The Color of You, fans saw Alina collaborate with Khalid on two new songs and listen to the how strong and powerful her songs had become. The soulful voice of Urban Flora had grown and completely whisked everyone off their feet in The Color of You. In 2019, Alina released It Was Divine, a soulful story of emotions and growing from a breakup, featuring artists 6LACK, Smino, Khalid and Nas. “It Was Divine” would also be her last album on Mom + Pop Music as Alina left the label in 2020 to become an independent artist.

On July 22, 2021 Alina Baraz released “Alone with You”, her first single as a solo artist. Shortly after this single would come her first independent EP Sunbeam, with her second independent EP Moongate coming out only a month later. Make sure to see Alina this Sunday at the House of Blues this Sunday in Orlando (GET TICKETS HERE).
