It’s been quite a while since I’ve gotten a proper dose of live alternative grunge rock in my life. Seems like most of it died out with the ’90s and to me, that’s a real shame. It made up much of the soundtrack to my adolescent and teenage years, so I’ve felt a lot of wonderful nostalgia while revisiting it.
Fortunately, one of the beloved greats, Alice in Chains, is still going strong and they’re coming to Orlando’s Hard Rock Live on Monday, August 10th. I have a feeling they’re going to play an incredibly killer show for us. Here’s one of the songs that’s among my old favorites.

Alice in Chains was one of many grunge bands that made its way into my CD collection back in the day along with likes of Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Silverchair, Jane’s Addiction, and the Offspring. I remember listening to my grunge rock while trying to blade, bike, and board around my childhood neighborhood with a clunky portable CD player shoved as far as I could fit it into my pocket (that skip protection never seemed to help enough though). I often asked my parents to get me one of the Best Portable CD Players to replace the one I had, but they never got around to it. Eventually, I upgraded to JNCO jeans. Remember those? Good times, right? 😛
Anyway, I’ll save the rest of those memories for another time. Heads up, Alice in Chains is still making awesome music these days too! Their last album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, captures that dark and muddy grunge feel that we loved in the ’90s. In case you haven’t given any of their new music a listen, check this song out.
I’ve never actually seen Alice in Chains live before, but I’m excited that the opportunity is still available and that they still sound as good as ever. Who knows how much longer they’ll be touring though. I hope you don’t miss out!
