If you listen to “Top 40” radio stations then you have certainly heard AJR. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, just have a listen to the catchy pre-chorus of “I’m Ready.” You’ll instantly think “Ohhhh yeah, I know this song!” as you nod along. AJR, consisting of three brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan brought their fun indie-pop tunes down the East coast from New York City.
When I showed up to the Hard Rock Live in Orlando around 7:30pm, the line was as far as you could see. Once inside the venue, I instantly knew that night was going to be special. The venue was packed out in anticipation for Lindsay Sterling. Little did many know, they were in for a upbeat treat in AJR.
AJR took the the stage around 8pm and the 3,000 seats at Hard Rock Live Orlando were all filled. As AJR began their set, which was influenced by radio friendly pop music, I was intrigued. With the band only releasing their debut EP, I’m Ready, about six months ago, I found myself feeling like I was watching the likes of The Format or Hellogoodbye; bands that have put in years of hard work to produce great music. As I listened and snapped pictures (below), I noticed the crowd was pleased with their new, fresh sound – even if they had no idea who these three guys were just yet!
The brother came to the stage equipped with a variety of instruments ranging from ukuleles to keyboards, a thunderous floor tom, a bass drum, sample pad, guitars and bass guitar. However, the vocals were what really made this band special. Each of the brothers sang and sounded great together with their crisp, clean vocal melodies and catchy hooks. Their unique pop-music influenced by indie-rock makes for a gap-bridging likeness which makes it easy to fall in love with them.
The three brothers closed their set to a cheerful crowd. A crowd who was certainly not shy about singing their hit single, “I’m Ready,” back to them.
Here’s a live video of “I’m Ready” from their show at Hard Rock Live in Orlando. Watch the official video below.
