Ticket Giveaway: Aaron Gillespie w/ William Beckett | Coming to BackBooth Orlando | Wednesday, July 15, 2015

The first time I saw Aaron Gillespie was at the 2006 Vans Warped Tour in Orlando, FL. At Underoathā€™s set, I saw a drummer with orange hair going absolutely nuts and singing harmonies. A year later, Cornerstone Music Festival came through Orlando, FL and I saw him play two sets: earlier in the day with The Almost, and later that night with Underoath.

I think my favorite performance of Aaronā€™s that I’ve seen, was at To Write Love On Her Arms Heavy and Light show in 2009. He took the stage at the House of Blues in Orlando after Dustin Kensrue and lit up the crowd with just an acoustic guitar, and made it known that he had been on tour with Underoath, thus he hadnā€™t brushed up on The Almost songs, so if something sounded off, itā€™s obviously the guitarā€™s fault.

My favorite moment was when he was playing ā€œSay This Sooner,ā€ the echo of his left foot stomping the stage to keep the beat and his guitar string snaps. He stops playing, looks at his fret board, steps back to the microphone and says:

“Oh shoot. My guitar string just broke and I donā€™t have an extra one. Stay right there. Iā€™ll be right back.”

A few minutes pass and he comes out with a completely different guitar. He borrowed Dustinā€™s guitar and picked up right where he left off, literally.
