COLT FORD. You really can’t say that name without the slightest southern draw dripping out of your mouth, just like momma’s maple syrup used to. In my case, an artist like Colt Ford hits close to home. Young Maz — that’s a new nickname I’ve given to myself — was raised in Polk County, a land where beer bellies roam free and everyone speaks with that prideful accent. I imagine more than a few of my Polk County brethren will be lined up to celebrate southern pride with Colt Ford on November 14 at Venue 578. Enjoy.

1.5 million Facebook users can’t be wrong, can they? Hailing from Athen, GA, the good ol’ boy known as Colt Ford has gathered the ears of The South with tunes about important aspects of southern life: “Angels & Demons,” “Dancin’ While Intoxicated,” “Chicken & Biscuits,” “Waffle House,” and “Titty’s Beer” (my personal favorite). Ford’s music is all about enjoying the life that we as Americans are lucky to live. This patriotism bleeds into both his live performance, Ford often performs with an American flag around his mic stand, and his album titles; the man named an album Declaration of Independence.

Fans of Keith Urban, Daniel Lee, and Lee Brice will most likely find the same passion in Colt Ford, all of which were featured on his latest, Thanks for Listening. Ford is his own man though. He takes the country twang the good Lord gave him and uses it, not to sing, but to rap (kind of). His delivery is joyful and humorous; this is a man who doesn’t take life too seriously. If you’d like to get down with the Colt-man, get to Venue 578 on November 14. I’ll need a Colt Ford-y Five. 😎
