311 Day 2016 New Orleans! | Coming to Smoothie King Center in New Orleans | March 11 & 12, 2016

I have been a fan of 311 since I first heard “Don’t Stay Home” on the radio back in 1995. I have seen them perform live over 25 times throughout the years and attended the 311 Pow Wow back in 2011. In 2000, 311 began performing special “311 Day” shows on March 11 every other year in which the band plays an extended set consisting of hits, rarities and covers. This has become the biggest holiday for 311 fans throughout the world.  Until now, the closest I’ve come to celebrating 311 Day is watching the DVD of their 2004 311 Day show in New Orleans which I am surprised still works after all this time. That is all about to change soon when I make my way to New Orleans to experience this huge event for myself. This year 311 Day has been expanded to a two-day event at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

311 Day

This year marks the first time 311 Day will be held over the course of two nights in New Orleans. In the past the band has been known to bring in circus performers, aerial acrobats, stilt walkers, drumlines, and marching bands in addition to their state-of-the-art lights and special effects that are produced special for this event. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this year.

This past year saw the release of the 311 box set Archive which contains all their rarities, b-sides and alternate takes together in one place for the first time. It is essentially a 311 fan’s dream come true. I’m hoping to hear quite of few of these songs over the course of two nights at 311 Day. The show is nearly sold out so don’t miss your chance to witness one of the greatest concert events of the year in one of the greatest cities.
