SIGT HIP HOP STOP W/ RON GRANT | New Missy Elliot Video, Release Date For New Drake Album, A Tribe Called Quest Reunites, Snoop Has His Own Weed, RZA Releases New Ol’ Dirty Bastard Track, Rae Sremmurd’s Music Festival

by • November 13, 2015

Once again, it looks like the Hip Hop Gods have smiled kindly on us. This week was a memorable one. Here are some of the most earth-shattering headlines from the past seven days, with some additional juicy news bits for you.

MISSY ELLIOT DROPS FIRST VIDEO IN THREE YEARS WITH “WTF (WHERE THEY FROM)”

We’ve been waiting a long time for this! With so many recent health issues, it’s amazing to see that Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot has returned to form with a new video and song, “WTF (Where They From),” featuring Pharrell. And the best part is that it’s just as bonkers, wild, and off the wall as we remember her videos being back in the day. More music and visuals please, Missy! Check out the fill video below.

RELEASE DATE FOR DRAKE’S VIEWS FROM THE 6 ALBUM

Sooooo … I did my best to stay away from the Drake news this week. Then, Thursday brought a new bombshell: There may finally be a release date for Drizzy’s fourth studio album, Views From the 6. Sorry, kids. Looks like October’s Very Own could be capping off his stellar 2015 with a new album this January. Thinking it’s safe to say Drizzy Season won’t be over any time soon.

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST REUNITING ON JIMMY FALLON

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon has become a bastion for Hip Hop, both old school and current. So it’s no surprise that one of the most vital groups of all time, A Tribe Called Quest, will have a reunion performance on tonight’s edition. It’s a show to celebrate the reissue of the Tribe’s debut album People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm, originally released 25 years ago. The reissue will be released on Friday, November 13 as well. Until then, here’s some lovely footage of Tribe’s last reunion in Brooklyn from 2013.

SNOOP DOGG’S SIGNATURE MARIJUANA LINE

Can’t say we didn’t see this one coming. Ever the savvy businessman, Uncle Snoop has officially released Leafs By Snoop, his signature line of cannabis, on sale now in the great state of Colorado. It’s such a good thing people can access it here, what a milestone for the state. And the fact that Snoop is using his platform to create a line of the drug is good for some many people, especially if they have been struggling to find marijuana seeds found here too! Hey, maybe he should think about getting Cypress Hill and Wiz Khalifa as his company’s spokesmen. He seems pretty happy about it, too!

RZA UNEARTHS UNRELEASED OL’ DIRTY BASTARD SONG “OBEY ME”

Unreleased music from our favorite deceased emcees never goes out of style. That’s why Wu-Tang founder and super producer RZA has cleaned up a previously recorded but unreleased track, “Obey Me,” from the one and only Ol’ Dirty Bastard. It’s said to be the result of Ol’ Dirty messing around in the studio back during the Enter The Wu-Tang period, possibly back in ’94. Give it a listen below.

RAE SREMMURD’S “SREMMFEST” HAPPENING IN DECEMBER

As if the enormous success of “No Flex Zone” and “No Type” weren’t enough, Mississippi duo Rae Sremmurd will hold their first ever “Sremmfest” Dec. 18-20. The festival will be hosted in Tupelo, MS. Performers will include Yo Gotti, Dej Loaf and Mike WiLL Made It. There will also be a celebrity basketball tournament, community BBQ, and food and toy drive. Kudos to this duo for doing right by their city.
