Gasparilla Music Festival is back! The GMF 2016 Initial Lineup Announcement is finally here! This year the festival is returning to Curtis-Hixon Park in downtown Tampa, FL for another beautiful festival on the waterfront. Check out the full lineup below.

The ShowsIGoTo.com team absolutly loved Gasparilla Music Festival last year. We had two photographers and two writers covering the entire event. Last year, we wrote a review titled “What All The Other Festivals All Promised,” because the feel of a festival is what truly defines its value. For 2016, they delivered with the sweetest soul they could find, Erykah Badu! Erykah recently released a Mixtape, which we covered in week 10 of Hip Hop Stop with Ron Grant. Picture yourself under the stars, swaying back and forth to these sultry beats:

More, they’re bringing the lyrical genius, Talib Kweli, who rides the line between underground and mainstream hip-hop. The darling sounds of HOUNDMOUTH and dream-pop jams of MS MR are just icing on this wholesome cake. Charles Bradley is also making his return to Tampa, we caught him last time he was here, Charles Bradley Live Review Here. I’m personally stoked about Blitzen Trapper, who I haven’t seen live before!

For local support (they always give the locals some love) Samurai Shotgun is a band we mentioned in our Don’t Stop St Pete Live Review — they’re heavy, Rage Against the Machine-influenced with alt-hip hop + afro-punk vibes. And, DieAlps! is local pop punk with a splash of indie whose front woman is from Austria. Their name literally translates to The Alps and they are catchy, fun, waltzing indie.

We also got some Orlando love! The Woolly Bushmen will be gracing the Gasparilla Music Festival 2016 stage, and they are wild to say the least!

Keep in mind, this is ONLY the initial lineup. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks! And, I’m sure they have some surprises up their sleeves. 😉

Here’s another reason why we LOVE Gasparilla Music Fest: GMF is produced by the Gasparilla Music Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. In addition to the music festival held each year during the 2nd weekend of March, the foundation works year round to support music outreach and education initiatives. Its flagship program, Recycled Tunes, is now entering its fourth year of providing instruments to local schools. This past year, the festival announced a partnership with Little Kids Rock, a national organization dedicated to providing underserved schoolchildren across the U.S. access to fun, engaging, Modern Band music classes and brand new instruments at no cost to the students, teachers, or school districts.
