Synth-y, mesmerizing, alluring are the first words that pop into my mind as I jam along to The War on Drugs. For the list of genres that we attempt to throw them in, The War on Drugs actually transcends–and thatā€™s why you wonā€™t want to miss them at the Beacham on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 (win tickets below from Lizzy McCormack’s Irish Pub!) .

With beats that stomp in a manner reminiscent of the ’80s blended with rolling riffs that still quake modern indie, itā€™s the blend that boosts and practically demonstrates why indie is such a popular genre. Just give them a listen:

I donā€™t know about you, but I was pretty anxious to dance with these dorks on stage within the first minute. That consistent energy carries over from song to song- and if thatā€™s any indication for how their live performance will go, Iā€™m already sold.

Itā€™s the 2014 release of Lost in the DreamĀ that skyrocketed The War on Drugs to fame, but itā€™s the permeability of the album that really grounds their kinetic sound. Melodic and entrancing, theĀ  balance of guitars and keys is the sort of vibing Iā€™d look for in a performer. The depth only grows with each track, and part of me would be content if they played the album through.

Opening for the tour is The Everymen, a seemingly army of musicians destined to tackle the bridge of folk punk-minded imagery and indie bop, for a lack of better word. With heavy influence from the ’60s, the New Jersey outfit is both easy for skanking or toĀ do the Mashed PotatoĀ (I applaud you if you can do this dance, by the way).

Letā€™s just say ā€œBoss Johnny and the Get Luckyā€ kind of inspired me to dance around like a nerd.
