It’s unfair to call St. Petersburg’s The Hip Abduction a new band. They’ve been doing their afropop rock thing for the past five years and playing all up and down The Sunshine State (including the Gasparilla Music Festival in Tampa a few days back).

Perhaps we should put it to you like this: if you’ve never heard of these guys before, you’ll try and change your own mind about that after hearing just a single song. Take in their tune “Children of the Sun” and you’ll understand right away how familiar it is they sound. And you’ll be bobbing your head. You’ll be closing your eyes and doing a happy white man’s overbite and dancing, too. Wherever you are, you’ll feel like you’re on a beach right around sunset.
