The Cult is a band designed to be listened to loud.  The band is driven by Ian Robert Astbury, a full throttled testosterone fueled front-man; sunglasses, Morrison / Bowie tilted mic stand, head thrown back and belting out the words.  Behind him, William Henry “Billy” Duffy wrestles the guitar with all the requisite melodic riffs with hints reminiscent of Jimmy Page, and a little Edge thrown in for good measure.  This is band not in any rush, so strap in – it’s going to get loud.

Many will know The Cult from their hits, “She Sells Sanctuary” and “Fire Woman,” as evidenced by the over 13,000,000 plays the two have on Spotify.

The Cult is touring in support of their latest release, Hidden City.  Hidden City opens with a drum sound that sets the whole recording in motion – straight at you and right between the eyes.  The lyrics and singing sound like they were written by a man who has seen his share of trouble and now he just wants to kick back and sing.  The Cult is a band, along with a long list of past members, who have had their lion’s share of issues – the stuff any “Behind the Music” quasi-documentary would be capable of exploiting.  But this record sounds as if their trashed hotel rooms are behind them, they have paid their bill and now it is time to rock.

If you like your rock played loud enough to get your parents to yell about the volume, or if you are a parent who wants your kids to know what rock was meant to sound like – then this is the show to take the whole family.  (But tell your mom, she might want earplugs.)
