TICKET GIVEAWAY: The Appleseed Cast | Coming to BackBooth Orlando | Saturday, August 8, 2015

I’ve been listening to The Appleseed Cast for about 5-6 years now. When I found out that they’re playing at BackBooth on Saturday, August 8th with Dikembe and Annabel, I had to restrain a little internal giddiness. I’ve yet to see them but have heard nothing but highly complimentary reviews of their live performances. There aren’t really a lot of bands left on my list of “unseen acts I care about,” so getting to check them out at a venue as intimate as BackBooth is most fulfilling (win tickets below).

Knowing that they hail from Lawrence, Kansas might mislead one to assume what The Appleseed Cast’s sound embodies. A general label of American indie rock is broadly applicable, but much the same as the term “alternative” means many different things, their music is actually difficult to define. Their Facebook page describes their sound: “The band’s predominantly guitar-based music has evolved from intense, heavy emo indebted to such acts as Mineral and Sunny Day Real Estate to a unique “post-rock” sound hinging on inventive, intricate drumming, subtle guitar arpeggios and a vast range of effects.”

After listening, one may notice a number of musical elements uniquely blended together on an almost subliminal pallet. Ambience, soothing melodies, non-conventional arrangement, and cadence: all intermingling while none dominates. I would suggest joining me the evening of the 8th for the full experience, as I’m sure it will be quite memorable.
