Reverend Horton Heat is coming to Tampa Bay on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the beautiful outdoor venue, Jannus Live in St. Pete (TICKETS HERE)! It is believed the genre “psychobilly” was created with the band, the Cramps. Formed in 1976, they had a dazzling 30 year career, changing the way punk rock and rock music as a whole was seen. With the success of the Cramps, the world saw that the rock music of the early ’70s and the punk rock music of the same time period was not black and white, but merely a rainbow of gray, in which any band could play across a fluid spectrum of rock. From a bluesy soul, to a country rock, to a heavy-riff punk-filled rock. The band that best defined this spectrum, and the genre psychobilly, is the Reverend Horton Heat.

Formed in 1985, The Reverend Horton Heat is anything but traditional, with sounds that feel as if the rock gods had stitched each album together by their own hands, flowing through a dark punk-rock-bluesy feel that is so effortless and so tangible. Their first album, Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em, is a poetic adventure that will have heads banging, feet moving and people shouting for me. The 12 track album sits at 40 minutes long and is just enough to get a taste of what they were beginning to cook up.

On their second album, they took another step forward with their sound and three steps forward with originality. With The Full-Custom Gospel Sounds of the Reverend Horton Heat, they mixed R&B, punk, surf with a hint of country to create something that hadn’t been heard before. From the opening track “Wiggle Stick” the album is straight up hill with no sight of slowing down. A true master class album, the band plays with beliefs and gives something worth listening to once a day. From 1994 to 2018, the band would release 11 more albums, each one more audacious and daring than its predecessor.

Make sure to check out Jim Heath and his band while they are in town, this is not a show that anyone who is a fan of rock will want to miss. With a discography that never ends, it will be one of the best rock shows in Central Florida this year.
