Our Orlando Radio Station, WPRK 91.5 FM, has been Off-Air since Friday, September 8, 2017. In preparation for Hurricane Irma, the decision was made to take the station off air so they could move the transmitter equipment (located in the basement) to higher ground in case of flooding.
On Sunday night, Irma bent the antenna mounts, damaging the radio antenna attached the top of the Mills Memorial Hall Building on Rollins Campus.
Right now, they’re dealing with a lot — an insurance claim, the possibility of relocating the antenna to another building (which would improve frequency and signal reach), and staying alive (and live). Rollins College has expressed the importance of getting the radio station back up and running to the WPRK General Manager, Greg Golden, who comments below sharing they’re working hard to get back on air!
I’m proud of the efforts the college has put forward to replace the antenna, and of our student staff and volunteers who are continuing to serve the community as we broadcast online, as we work to return to FM airwaves.
How can you help?!
