Originating in South Bend Indiana in 1998, Umphrey’s McGee has transformed and honed their sound. With each member contributing different influences they have created a melting pot of a genre for themselves. In 2005, “In the Kitchen” won the “Jammy Award for Song of the Year.” Some may want to consider them a jam band, but once you hear and see them, you’ll know that they are much more than that. Umphrey’s McGee finds a way to infuse progressive rock, jazz fusion, metal, funk, reggae and everything in-between into their live performances and studio albums with precision and grace. This six-piece band will take you on a rollercoaster of sounds and emotion as you watch them have an intricate conversation with each other and you on stage.

The most recent UMBowl VIII in Chicago 2022 allowed the fans to “choose their own adventure” via text message and Umphrey’s McGee would play what the audience chose, displayed on a big screen on stage. The fans could choose themes and cover songs they wanted to hear live, right there! The amount of skill and practice this takes to perform is astounding and has only deepened their fan’s connection and the UMPH Love.

Umphrey’s with it’s six participants, Brendan Bayliss [guitar, vocals], Jake Cinninger [guitar, vocals], Joel Cummins [keyboards, piano, vocals], Andy Farag [percussion], Kris Myers [drums, vocals], and Ryan Stasik [bass], are known for their mashups and covers. They’ll rock out anything from Talking Heads and Bob Marley, The Weeknd, and Fleetwood Mac, Metallica and Gorillaz, to Tool and the Rolling stones. These mashups do not disappoint. Umphrey’s 2016 studio album, Zonkey is a great example of what they can do. An album dedicated entirely to this concept.

Umphrey’s 25th Anniversary Tour, “Onward and Upward,” will highlight their most recent album, Asking for a Friend. Written during the pandemic, the band reflects on the reality of what was going on in our country, with songs such as “Ordinary Times” and “Fenced In.” “Escape Goat” emerged from a band fan contest during 2020 embracing the themes of the album and the journey of friendship with an 80’s billowing tone. This album is an example of how much the band has grown with each other and their fan base over the years.
