Tortuga Music Festival Preview | Fort Lauderdale, FL | April 15-17, 2017

by • November 8, 2016

Let us go back in time five years ago. I was a high school senior, eager to get out and see what the real world had to offer. Tortuga Music Festival had just been born into the wild and competitive world of music festivals. Besides fans of country music, Tortuga’s target audience is beach-goers, so they set up base in Fort Lauderdale Beach. Five years later, here we are. I am now a photojournalist for this wonderful website, and Tortuga is all grown up – celebrating their five year anniversary with a lineup worthy of the cause.

Tortuga started as a two-day festival with twenty-two musicians and is now a three-day party (April 15th-17th) with thirty-five musicians across several genres. They’re bringing back two originals from the first year; country king Kenny Chesney and the talented Brett Eldredge. However, Tortuga Music Festival is not just for country fans. R&B panty dropper Nelly, reggae/jam band sensation Slightly Stoopid, upcoming pop star Daya, blues legends G. Love and Special Sauce, and more will make appearances sharing their musical talent on the beach-front stage. Some of the top tier country acts include Darius Rucker, Chris Stapleton, Old Dominion and Luke Bryan.

Tortuga Music Festival is hosted by Rock The Ocean, a foundation that ties music with conservation. Every year, the Conservation Village gives festival goers the opportunity to learn about issues pertaining to the ocean. It also gives the artists a chance to learn about what is going on and how we all can work together to save our planet. Tortuga is an opportunity for Rock The Ocean to educate 40,000 music lovers. Being a native, I understand how crucial it is to make sure we all do our part to keep our ocean clean.

Tortuga is pulling out all the punches to deliver the best celebration they can and with this lineup — it’s heading to be a TKO. Passes are going for $229 for 3 days of live music on the oceanfront stage and the festival is going to offer local cuisine for your salty taste buds and of course, free water stations. There are several hotels that are in close proximity to the festival grounds. Booking assistance can be found here.

Your bathing suit may be packed away now, but it won’t be long until swimming season, and festival season are back in full swing. Do not risk letting this festival sell out and miss your chance to get a pass for Tortuga. Country musicians have much love for one another, so the chances for collaborations here are always high. These artists will not disappoint. Kenny Chesney is the Bruce Springsteen of Country, Chris Stapleton is bringing back traditional Tennessee country music and is finally making his debut on the main stage, and Luke Bryan will have your loved one shaking it for me (well you).
