Yonder Mountain String Band is an artisanal coffee shop with exposed wooden beams. Not so much rustic cabin as a hip place for a hang and some diversity of thought. Progressive bluegrass seems to be the term the industry has settled as best to describe a melding of rock, bluegrass, and jazz so many wonderful bands have adopted in one form or another. ‘Modernist bluegrass’ is the preferred label of Yonder Mountain String Band. Whatever your preferred moniker, Yonder Mountain String Band is bringing their excellent live show to Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and you can win tickets.

The melding of genres comes honestly to Yonder. Guitarist Adam Aijala cut his teeth on Black Flag, Jimi Hendrix, and Metallica before discovering the wonders of Dylan, Neil Young, and Old & in the Way. Ben Kaufman’s bass journey began with Big Band jazz before falling for Phish in the mid-‘90s. And violinist Allie Kral grew up with classical music before going deep into the exploration of bluegrass.
