For the span of two-plus years, I was best described as a Third Man Records Stan. I knew every new release. I bought records. I wrote articles. (See!!! articles: one, two.) As a young advertising/public relations major, I had dreams of crafting out of this world record packages at Third Man Records headquarters in Nashville. For those who are daft, Third Man is a record label founded by Jack White — guitar god in The White Stripes (GOAT-level) and The Raconteurs, and drummer for The Dead Weather. I was a Third Man Records Stan because I was a Jack White Stan. This obsession culminated in my extended orgasm at Bonnaroo 2014, seeing White play a two-plus hour set that spanned his entire catalog. (read more of my teenybopper dribble here.)

But this article isn’t about Jack White. It’s about what the Crackjack team at Third Man Records are cookin’ up. It’s about “Audio Social Dissent 2016” this Saturday at The Social, and the bands representing one of the best independent labels out there. And most importantly, it’s about you winning tickets to that very show (enter below). Enjoy.

The two bands carrying this whole tour on their back are Detriot (good to see that Jack’s still repping his hometown) glam acid trio Timmy’s Organism, and Austin-based boys VIDEO. (The Orlando date also features Regression 696, but I’ve found absolutely nothing on them.) Both bands are heavy implementers of thick distortion, but use it on their canvases differently. The former funnels it through early-70’s garage rock. Brooklyn’s Cheeseburger comes to mind. VIDEO pulses more like DIY punk. Brute force is the first descriptor that comes to mind when speaking on any of this bands elements.

But would you expect anything but loud, gritty fuzz from Third Man? Although I don’t gush as much as I used to over their every move, I still can’t help but assume this night will be good.
