The Expendables Preview Orlando

BUY TICKETS TO THE EXPENDABLES, ZACH DEPUTY, AND THE HIP ABDUCTION AT HO– USE OF BLUES ORLANDO – $17

This should be an exciting night full of good reggae feels and bouncing dance beats as the special guests opening the show are one of Florida’s upcoming tropical indie jam rockers, The Hip Abduction, and also the funkiest one man band on the planet, Zach Deputy. However, for this run of shows, Zachy D will have his backing band with him, The Hashtags. In addition to the Orlando show, the tour has four other stops in Florida including Gainesville, Fort Lauderdale, St. Petersberg and Jacksonville.

The Expendables Preview

The Expendables consists of four longtime friends: Geoff Weers (Guitar and Vocals), Adam Patterson (Drums and Vocals), Raul Bianchi (Lead Guitar), and Ryan DeMars (Bass). These guys grew up enjoying a laid-back lifestyle of surfing, skating, and partying that has instilled the easy-going aura their music portrays to us. Starting in 1997, they have jammed their reggae surf punk rock from coast to coast with an incredible synergy that works the crowd every time. Nearly twenty years later, five albums released and countless miles traversed, they show no signs of slowing down. They were in town just a few months ago at Hard Rock Live opening for Sublime With Rome. Actually, they were more co-headlining that show as everyone I talked to that night were just as excited to see one band as they were the other. Check out my highlight video of them from that show below, as well as my video of their moshpit during “Corporate Cafeteria” at Warped Tour 2011.

Zach Deputy has definitely made his mark as a touring powerhouse. I’m super excited to see him with his backing band, The Hashtags, as I’ve seen him play dozens of times doing his solo thing but only a hand full of times with a full band. As for his most recent album release, Another Day (Eusonia Records, 2011), his astonishing ability to perform and record in multiple contexts and convey the sensibilities of a mature singer/songwriter are very prevalent and help him cross over into other audiences. He and his island-infused drum n’ bass gospel ninja soul are also no stranger to Orlando, and Florida overall for that matter. Just a few months ago in October, he turned BackBooth in downtown Orlando into a house party, and he always hangs out with the fans after the show. Other venues in town he’s graced the stage at include The Plaza Live, The Social, West End Trading Co., and even The Abbey. I even saw him rock the boat on Jam Cruise 2014! He’s also played dozens of music festivals throughout our great state, including many at the magical Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park.

Florida based “Tropical Indie Pop” sextet The Hip Abduction are set to release their sophomore full-length Gold Under the Glow on March 11, 2016. They place heavy emphasis on African stringed instruments (kora, ngoni) mixed with dub-reggae bass lines and funky afro-beat percussion. Gold Under the Glow captures the high-energy of The Hip Abduction’s signature sound but with an added indie rock twist. The new release will feature tracks “Come Alive,” which can currently be heard on SiriusXM JamOn and “Before We Lose Our Minds,” the album’s first official single set to be released in January 2016. It comes as a follow-up to their 2013 self-titled release, The Hip Abduction, which landed the band at #5 on the Billboard reggae charts. They embark on a headlining tour in March with stops in New York, DC, The Carolinas, Alabama, and Florida. I filmed their show at The Social back in March last year which was my one and only time seeing them, so I’m beyond excited to check them out again.

Check out the album teaser for The Hip Abduction’s new album Gold Under the Glow.
