Music festivals drive culture and commerce. They’ve blurred the lines between major, mainstream, and minor, struggling artists and created another major money making outlet for their creators and managers. Fans dole out hundreds of dollars to see their favorite artists perform in one place.
Love them, despise them, or don’t care shit about them, the music festival model will only keep growing bigger and more diverse. If you’re an up-and-coming hip-hop artist, trying to make it in this Wild West-like music and entertainment industry, it’s not easy. It’s a beast of a task paying and traveling to major festivals, let alone making the most of your experience marketing your brand.
But in 2018, hip-hop’s presence at major festivals will only get bigger. Below, we’ve cataloged a few of the prime festivals any aspiring hip-hop artist will want to attend, perform at, and get to networking ASAP.
SXSW FESTIVAL IN AUSTIN, TX
ROLLING LOUD FESTIVAL IN MIAMI, FL
A3C MUSIC FESTIVAL IN ATLANTA, GA
BONNAROO MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL IN GREAT STAGE PARK, TN
ONE MUSIC FESTIVAL IN ATLANTA, GA
NETWORK MUSIC CONFERENCE IN ORLANDO, FL
THE ROOTS PICNIC IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
REVOLT MUSIC FESTIVAL IN MIAMI, FL
MADE IN AMERICA FESTIVAL IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
POWER 105.1 POWERHO– USE IN BROOKLYN, NY
Being at any of these festivals/conferences can send the career of an up-and-coming hip-hop artist into another world. Just be sure to be strategic, be open-minded, and know that it’s about more than just having fun and performing: it’s about making power moves that will set you up for years to come. Set your goals.
