SINGLE REVIEW: Indigo Blak – “Heatwave”

by • July 1, 2016

Orlando-based artist, songwriter, performer, and producer Indigo Blak has continued to make waves locally and nationally ever since his emergence last year, as an experimental R&B force to be reckoned with. I saw him perform last year at Artegon Marketplace in Orlando. He performed some of his own material and a stirring synth-punk cover of “I Would Die 4 U” that got the crowd all riled up.

Indigo’s latest single serves as a lusty summer anthem for those late nights where good trouble is imminent. “Heatwave” simmers and writhes with sensuality. Blak doling out lines like, “Girl you know you scorch like the sun, and I don’t even know your name” — along with the thumping drums, haunting but melodic moans, occasional synthesizers, and the overall sense of dripping, tickling, playful innuendo — create the atmosphere of a sweaty, humid nightclub at the end of a scorching weekend summer night … and you’re about to take someone home for a nightcap, sans drinks.
