SIGT HIP HOP STOP W/RON GRANT – Drake and Future album, Azelia Banks Homophobic Slur, New J Dilla Album, Possible N.E.R.D. Album, Loaded Lux Vs. Charlie Clips, Meek Mill previews ‘Dreamchasers 4’

by • September 25, 2015

The Hip Hop news mill was pretty diverse this week with new albums dropping, new tours announced and new trouble for the autumn season. Here are some of the biggest stories from the past seven days.

DRAKE, FUTURE MIXTAPE ALBUM DROPS

Can we now say that What A Time To Be Alive is the most hyped and anticipated mix tape of the year? Yeah, thinking it’s probably safe to at this point. After all, it’s a collabo between two of the biggest names in mainstream Hip Hop. The collabo album was dropped earlier this week and seems to be grabbing all the headlines from rap blogs as far as the eye can see. It’s becoming clearer and clearer who has the game on lock from this vantage point.

AZELIA BANKS HOMOPHOBIC SLUR CAUGHT ON TAPE

No one is safe from the wrath of Azelia Banks, as a flight attendant found out earlier this week. But after referring to the male attendant as a “faggot”, Banks received a ton of backlash for her choice of words. She soon took to Twitter and apologized to her fans, but not without placing blame on media making hype surrounding the incident in true Azelia Banks fashion. Read her Twitter responses and check out the video of the altercation.

POSTHUMOUS J DILLA ALBUM DILLATRONIC SET FOR RELEASE

The legend of Detroit emcee/producer J. Dilla only grows bigger and bolder every year. Now, a new album that is apparently sanctioned by his mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, is slated to be released on October 30. Dillatronic will be available in 3 different deluxe packages on CD and vinyl and will feature 40-plus unheard instrumentals from Dilla himself. Additionally, Dilla Weekend in Miami, FL will take place February 5-7. Looks like Dilla continues to do Detroit proud in the afterlife.

PHARRELL SAYS A NEW N.E.R.D. ALBUM MAY BE ON THE WAY

Pharrell Williams is know these days more for The Voice and for the smash summertime feel good jam “Happy.” But not so long ago, his group N.E.R.D. took the alternative Hip Hop world by storm with four albums between 2001 and 2010. And this week, Williams seemed to confirm that a new N.E.R.D. album might be close than we think after taking over the iHeartRadio Twitter account. Can we expect the same rowdy rap-rock diversity from In Search Of…, Fly Or Die or Seeing Sounds? One can only hope.

LOADED LUX VS. CHARLIE CLIPS BATTLE

A preview of the “Summer Madness 5” battle rap event on BattleRap.com takes a closer look at the Loaded Lux Vs. Charlie Clips battle set for this coming Saturday, Sept. 26. The article says, “This match pits the guy many consider the best writer in the game (Lux) against the guy most were calling the all-around G.O.A.T. earlier this year (Clips.)” Both Lux and Clips seem to have a lot to prove with this battle, and the eyes of the battle world are sure to be transfixed to this duel. It will be available on Pay Per View on watchbattlelive.com.

MEEK MILL SET TO DROP DREAMCHASERS 4

So it looks like all hope isn’t quite lost for Meek Mill just yet. Earlier this week he posted several videos on Instagram previewing his tracks from the upcoming mix tape Dreamchasers 4. The Dreamchasers series has been highly successful for Meek, and considering the bad look he got from his pseudo-feud with Drake, he could use some good news. Judging from the 4 million downloads that the first three Dreamchasers scored, looks like Meek could be back to his winning ways soon.
