SIGT HIP HOP STOP W/RON GRANT: Snoop And Trump Beef, Lupe Fiasco’s DROGAS Wave, Drake’s More Life Playlist, Dave Chappelle’s Netflix Specials, Russell Simmons To Get In the Documentary Game, CyHi imagines a ‘Nu Africa’

by • March 17, 2017

Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest hip hop news of the week, including Snoop Dogg’s beef with the President and Dave Chappelle’s two Netflix specials dropping March 21.

SNOOP DOGG CLOWNS DONALD TRUMP IN “LAVENDER”, TRUMP RESPONDS

This one is proof that the new Prez just can’t seem to resist a Twitter beef with anyone. Trump criticized Snoop for the video for “Lavender”, saying that the rapper has a “failing career. To which Snoop responded on Instagram that he has nothing to say. Savvy move on Snoop’s part, as any kind of beef with Trump is about as pointless to try understanding as a Sean Spicer press conference.

NETFLIX RELEASING TWO DAVE CHAPPELLE SPECIALS ON MARCH 21

It’s been a long time. But the one and only Dave Chappelle is back with not one, but two comedy specials on Netflix. The shows were filmed in Austin, TX and Los Angeles, CA. Now if we could only get a reboot of Chappelle’s Show, we’d be all set.

LUPE FIASCO REVEALS COVER ART FOR DROGAS: WAVE

DROGAS: Light from earlier this year was a pretty polarizing. Then again, Lupe would probably have it no other way. Now, he’s released the art for his second of a reported three-album run in 2017. What can we expect to hear on DROGAS: Wave? More psuedo-trap? A return to the lyricism and story line of Tetsuo and Youth? Hard to say but it damn sure will be interesting.

WILL MORE LIFE DROP ON MARCH 18?

Looks that way. Champagne Papi is reportedly dropping More Life on multiple streaming services this coming Saturday. At least that’s the message we got in an Instagram video on his account. Truthfully, it’s about damn time, as we’ve been subjected to rumors since last October. The only thing we know for sure is that it’s not an Apple Music exclusive. Which means even more fans might be able to check for it on more platforms. It’s still Drizzy season, folks.

RUSSELL SIMMONS/ALL DEFF DIGITAL TO PRODUCE HIP HOP DOC– USERIES

Simmons’ All Def Digital outfit is partnering with Stephen David Entertainment to create an in depth, behind the scenes look that delves deep into the history of the art beginning in the 1970s. Titled The Definitive History of Hip Hop, the program will come from the creators of The Men Who Built America and The Making of the Mob. No other details are yet available.

CYHI DA PRINCE RELEASES A VIDEO FOR “NU AFRICA”

We’re still waiting for a proper debut album from CyHi, but this video looks promising. In it, he raps pro-black lyrics of black celebrities and athletes of all kinds coming together to re-establish the continent. What a concept. Check out the video below.
