THE ROOTS ANNOUNCE THE ROOTS PICNIC WITH AN ANIMATED SHORT
The legendary Roots Crew is celebrating its 10th annual Roots Picnic on June 3 in Philly with special guests like Lil Wayne, Solange and Pharrell. Questlove and Black Thought even lent their voices to an animated short just for kicks to announce more of the participants for 2017. Have a look below, and purchase tickets here.
GUCCI MANE GOING ON TOUR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS CAREER
Gucci has one hell of a comeback year in 2016 with the albums Everybody Looking and The Return of the East Atlanta Santa, plus the WOPTOBER mix tape. Now he’s headed out on the TrapGod tour, the first of his career. The tour starts this April and will hit cities like Boston, Detroit, Denver and Miami. Here’s a listing of his upcoming tour dates.
NEW SCRIPTED SERIES THE BREAKS PREMIERES ON VH1
The Breaks takes a look at the birth of the 90s of New York hip hop. Developed by The Source magazine alum and executive producer Dan Charnas, it picks up where the made-for-TV movie left off last year. You can officially add this one to a growing list of must-watch hip hop centered television, including Atlanta and The Get Down.
JAY ELECTRONICA INTERVIEW WITH BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
Welp, looks like a studio album from Jay Electronica is still in unicorn status. In an interview with Billboard, Jay says that he’s not pressed by any pressure from Roc Nation label boss and mentor Jay Z, and that it might take a call from Minister Louis Farrakhan for him to “throw something together.” Seriously, it’s about time we all throw in the towel in terms of Jay Elec.
J COLE ANNOUNCES 4 YOUR EYEZ ONLY WORLD TOUR
Jermaine is hitting the road after dropping another surprise album on the masses in 2016. The 4 Your Eyez Only Tour is set to begin in South Carolina on June 1 with tickets going on sale today. Peep a list of some of the cities and venues he’ll hit up.
DONALD GLOVER’S ATLANTA WINS TWO WRITER’S GUILD AWARDS
Glover’s FX series Atlanta scored wins for Best New Series and Best Comedy Series at the awards ceremony on February 19. Did we also mention that Glover is set to star as a young Lando Calrissian in the new Han Solo Star Wars movie? It’s nothing but win after for the rapper/writer/entertainment every man.
