I attended Riot Fest and Carnival in Chicago for the first time in 2014 where I saw The National, Jane’s Addiction and one of my favorite bands of all time, The Cure. Ever since that first experience, all I could think about was going back to Riot Fest. I was able to return in 2015 to see bands like No Doubt, Motorhead, The Damned, Millencolin and Hum. Just like the last few years, Riot Fest’s lineup is stacked to the brim with great artists like The Flaming Lips, Morrissey, and a reunion of The Original Misfits with Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only. Riot Fest isn’t just known for it’s great bands. Over the years, Riot Fest has been responsible for reuniting some great bands like The Replacements, Alexisonfire, and The Movielife. This year Riot Fest is giving us the mother of all reunions: The Original Misfits with Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only. Also reuniting for this year’s fest will be Ween, Thursday, and Girls Against Boys.
Another great feature of Riot Fest is their full album plays. Select bands will be playing one of their iconic albums from start to finish. This year, Julian Marley will be playing his father’s classic album Exodus. Social Distortion will be playing White Heat, White Light, White Trash and Rob Zombie will play the legendary White Zombie album Astro Creep 2000. This year’s Riot Fest and Carnival in Chicago is definitely one you shouldn’t miss!
