PREVIEW: The Dear Hunter | The Social, Orlando, FL | Wednesday, October 12, 2016

by • October 5, 2016

If you’ve followed The Dear Hunter’s increasingly intriguing progression with any level of interest, you’re already wise to the fact that their Oct. 12 performance at The Social will be an epic one. It’s just how they’re used to doing things.

The Rhode Island band of not-so-merry misfits is touring in support of their recently released Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional. After this, there will be more music, but no more acts per se; it’s the final record of the series that began a decade ago.

The Dear Hunter is neither simple nor simplistic. From the time the band toed the line between fact and fiction — producing early demos about the failed relationship between a man and a prostitute — to its largely conceptual series of Acts, they’ve never shied away from fairly sprawling storytelling. Their latest finishes a six-album tale set at the dawn of the 20th century and revolves around the birth, life, and fairly abrupt death of an anti-hero known only as The Dear Hunter.

Make no mistakes. This is a band bent on showcasing heady, well-imagined material. If they’ve taken this much care to weave their arc of albums together in a beautifully crafted timeline, the night of this show will be some next level brand of reality for all in attendance.

Get lost in the story as it’s coming to its close. Head to The Social on Oct. 12 and pull up a chair near the proverbial campfire.
