Okeechobee Festival Preview

“Putting Florida on the Map”: Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival | March 4 – 6, 2016

by • December 7, 2015

Well, this is it. The third and final wave of artist additions for Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival was announced this week, and my head has officially exploded. So please excuse me while I scrape my brains off the computer screen and try to formulate sentences that might describe even a fraction of the excitement I’m feeling about this right now.

Over the course of three days in March, more than 80 artists, bands, and DJs are set to take the stage, and if you’re anything like me this lineup is blowing your mind. And the kicker? It’s happening in our own backyard. The event is set to take place on an 848-acre plot of land called Sunshine Grove, in Okeechobee, Florida, and is being planned by a newly founded company called Soundslinger, led by a former Bonnaroo promoter.

I’m a big fan of diversity, and my taste in music is no different, which makes this multi-genre festival an absolute no-brainer. From hip hop, to folk, to classic rock, indie, and electronic, headliners include Mumford and Sons, Kendrick Lamar, ODESZA, Jason Isbell, Robert Plant, Hall and Oats, Skrillex, Ween, Big Grams, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Fetty Wap, The Avett Brothers, Grace Potter, Lettuce, and too many more to name. In addition to major headliners, Okeechobee Fest is peppered with lots of local love, bringing Florida favorites like Roadkill Ghost Choir, Hundred Waters, SWIMM, and The Supervillains out to play. Be still, my heart!

Special features of the festival include the Jungle Stage, playing live music from dusk ‘til dawn, the Beach Stage, playing live music on the water from dawn ‘til dusk (strategically placed next to a beach bar and the swimming area), Yogachobee, which will be serving up a daily yoga practice, workshops, and lots of healthy food options, and Miguel‘s Pow Wow! Superstar Collaboration that is rumoured to rival Bonnaroo’s SuperJam.

On the festival’s website they say,

We are not just a music festival. We are a carefully thought-out, curated platform for great ideas of all kind. You will find the variety of talks, workshops, art installations, and spontaneous musical performances in undisclosed locations.”

The website also encourages you to be super open to new experiences and step out of your comfort zone, which I really dig. My interpretation is that you should get your rage sticks and party pants (AKA no pants) ready for lots of hugs and high fives, and be prepared for three days of epic music and endless love. Isn’t that what we all live for? Epic music and endless love? I think so.

3 Day GA and Exclusive VIP Passes on sale now; Tier 2 sales end December 10.
