EXLUSIVE: Oh Honey Interview & ‘Wish You Were Here’ EP Release!

by • April 16, 2015

Oh Honey has been making very sweet things recently. This small duet from New York, plus a few traveling band members that join them on the road, have come to light rather quickly. We got a chance to chat with them about their new EP, Wish You Were Here, below!

Danielle Bouchard and Mitchy Collins have found themselves on tour with The Fray, The Mowgli’s, and American Authors, as an opening act throughout 2014. All the while managing to release two EP’s, finding their hit “Be Okay” used in a Chili’s commercial, and in a Disney movie trailer. They also managed to find a home with Fueled By Ramen records–whom is overseeing acts such as Paramore, young the giant, and Twenty One Pilots–and 2015 seems to be off to an even better start for them! The band has just recently released their third EP and kicked off their first ever headlining tour, taking their upbeat sounds back on the road.

Postcards across America

Their new EP is titled Wish You Were Here. Just like the last 2 EP’s it includes 4 songs:

1- “Sugar, You.”
2- “It Can’t Rain Forever”
3- “A Thousand Times”
4- “Compass”

The songs are all upbeat and encouraging, but play on the title with lines such as: “Draw the map from you to me, write the stories in between, theres an awful lot of space from sea to sea and I haven’t seen your face in to many weeks.” (

“Draw the map from you to me, write the stories in between, theres an awful lot of space from sea to sea and I haven’t seen your face in to many weeks.” -“Compass”

They follow the same upbeat tune as Oh Honey’s other two EP’s With Love (2014) and Sincerely Yours (2014), but separate themselves with a unique mix of sound, just as each has done before. 🙂

All three EP’s are currently available to listen to on Spotify and available for purchase at www.ohhoneymusic.com (where you can also find their tour dates, too).

Recently I got to ask Mitchy and Danielle some questions regarding this EP, their influences in writing, tour life, and what their future holds! Read below for an exclusive interview with Oh Honey!

What was the inspiration for this particular EP?

Danielle and Mitchy (D/M) — This EP was interesting because we had actually decided on the name of it before we knew which songs would be on it, so the writing was definitely influenced by the title.
“It Can’t Rain Forever” is kind of our mantra — when bad days pass, good ones follow. It’s about keeping the hope alive that better things lie ahead.
“Sugar, You” is about that person everyone has in their lives that they know from a distance but want to get to know better because they feel like maybe something more could happen– wishing for that closeness.
“A Thousand Times” is about losing love and the regret that follows.
“Compass” is about trying to maintain love despite the challenge of distance. We’re on the road 9 months out of the year and it’s really tough to have relationships, but we feel like the people we love keep us grounded. They’re our sense of home.

How long were the recording sessions?

(D/M)– “A Thousand Times” and “Compass” are two songs we’ve had written for a while, so they came together in the studio pretty quickly. “Sugar, You” and “It Can’t Rain Forever” we wrote the month before in LA, and those took a couple more days to flesh out. We actually recorded the entire EP in a week though! Since we live on different coasts, we’ve learned how to be extremely effective with time management when we’re in the same place.

What is it like to be headlining a tour vs opening? What have been the struggles? Best part of preparing?

(D/M)– It’s been incredible. We’ve only ever opened on tour, so we are used to playing for 30 minutes and that’s it. Headlining is cool because we have a full hour and we get to play songs we don’t normally have the time to play. We’re even able to pop down into the audience and play a few songs acoustic which is fun for us. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with putting together a headline set, but it’s been great so far– really rewarding.

Is another EP next? Or a full length?

(D/M)– The last EP in the “Postcards” series is called “Until Next Time,” and it’ll be released some time this summer. Once our headliner wraps up at the end of April, we’ll be in LA for a few weeks writing and then back in Brooklyn to record it. We can’t wait!

(J)-Thank you Danielle and Mitchy for your time and replying to our questions!
