I’m in my sister’s rental car at Mills and Robinson. It’s a black Mustang convertible. My 12-year-old nephew asks out-of-the-blue, “what’s an orgasm?” While I’m trying to catch my breath from laughing, here’s the answer I should have offered —
Miguel. That’s what an orgasm is. This whole experience is like one long 2-hour orgasm.
Ladies, if you feel like moving, be free!
Fellas, you too, but don’t touch … unless you have permission.
“May I have permission?” is met with a smile and hips.
The first time I encountered Miguel he was on stage with Win Butler (Arcade Fire), John Oates (Hall & Oates), Marcus Mumford (you know), Kamasi Washington, Eric Krasno (Lettuce), & Preservation Hall Jazz Band. That was at Okeechobee 2016. I was so enamored I couldn’t leave and stayed the whole performance, beginning to end — two hours.
There are two semi-trailers outside at Plaza Live. This production is insane. The LED back wall, multi-level stage setup, intricate lighting arrays, transform Plaza Live to Miguel’s love lair.
I’m sipping Sweetwater 420 and the person next to me faints. For real. Right at the beginning of “Coffee” — “I wish I could paint our love …” Damn. She’s alright. Damn. I might be next.
My lips meet my dates’. Thanks Miguel, this is your fault.
And it turned into “Coffee in the morning …”
