MUSIC NEWS: Meek Mill’s Twitter Tirade Taunts Drake!

by • July 23, 2015

Here we are once again, Hip Hop fans. A Twitter rant by a mainstream emcee has the Internet going nuts. This time, it’s Philly’s current favorite son, Meek Mill. Apparently sick, tired and fed up with comparisons to his past collaborator Drake, Meek Mill took to Twitter to call out the Champagne Papi for not writing his own rhymes for records. Which seems a bit curious, seeing as Drake was featured on arguably Meek’s biggest radio record to day with “Amen”. Still, this is Hip Hop. And though today’s emcees seem more buddy-buddy than ever, all is fair in the game. Peep the text from some of Meek’s Twitter tirade:

“The whole game know for real they scared to tell the truth! I can’t wait tok these guys and sit back and act like they don’t know!”

“He ain’t even write that verse on my album and if I woulda knew I woulda took it off my album….. I don’t trick my fans! Lol”

The main focus now of course, will be how Drake responds to this slight, if at all. So far, no reply from “Drizzy.”

We’re all well aware that Drizzy has a habit of either saying absolutely nothing or throwing sideways, indirect shade. Remember the whole Common “beef” with “Sweet” and “Stay Schemin?” But Meek’s latest rant also raises a few more questions. Ones that we are yet to truly get answers to in the Hip Hop world in 2015 and beyond. What is authenticity in Hip Hop? Is ghostwriting something that’s more acceptable now than before?

Should an artist at Drake’s level be ridiculed if this is the case?

Is the chumminess in Hip Hop in the new millennium coming to an end? Are we going to get back to more of a competitive, winner-take-all environment? Is this a situation to be shrugged off, or taken as a challenge? There’s still much to be determined.
