FREE BEER w/ entry!

Ok, now that I have your attention, ahem…

One of our nearest and dearest, the one and only, The Vinyl Warhol, has been on tour with Me Chinese and from what I’ve read of the ventures, these boys know how to throw TF down. Their lazy, semi-doo-wop style will hypnotize you into dancing before you know it. Their sock hop-esque tune “The Single” begins with an announcer introducing the boys and song in true old radio fashion. The foursome are indeed a throwback to the dials and saddle shoes of yesteryear with cool crooning and simple, big band rhythms. They feel like today’s answer to the heavy smog of synthesized artists. An odd breath of fresh air. Breathe it in and do the twist.

 

In the perfect juxtaposition to Me Chineses’ sound is the certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ garage take on the 50’s Doo-wop genre of The Palmettes. They are quintessentially Florida. Their 2014 demo tape cover art of palm trees and the ever delightful palmetto bugs,(for which the band’s namesake is a feminine take,) helps create a sense of musical state pride. The combination of female vocals, the occasional ukulele, and upbeat brash guitar are perfect for a day of hooky at the beach. Grab your friends and get down in the sand.*

Bubble Boys: Garage Rock, Salsa Punk, Jungle Punk, Space Punk, Breakfast Punk, Punk Punk. There you have it folks, straight from the band themselves. It’s always interesting to hear a band describe their sound as it is hard to be objective to our own art but here, the Orlando-native threesome, have nailed it. They are indeed Punk that can be enjoyed in a garage or which your morning breakfast waffles, and I imagine are just as dope in space, as well. Distortion and distant vocals create a futuristic feel like you forgot an important homework assignment or perhaps that feeling you have about the garbage disposal man with the always sweaty back is getting a little too friendly with your thrown away goods. Bubble Boys are eerie and third dimension in the best way. May I suggest an add to your genre profile; Deja Punk. So good you’ll want to listen again…unless, you already have…
