Kevin Burke is a 20-year old singer-songwriter from Long Island who has taken a break from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia to pursue his solo career and has recently released his new five-track EP, Waiting Season, on July 31st. The album was written and recorded fully by himself.  Burke told USA Today, who premiered the EP, “Playing all of the instruments on this record was a great learning process for me. It was nice playing each part just how I heard it in my head and having the product match the vision.” Listen to the stream from Soundcloud here.

Having previously played in various punk/emo bands for nearly ten years, his piano-pop stylings integrate subtle influences from those genres.  He takes influence from and can is often compared to several classic artists like Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, and Billy Joe.  Burke says he was fortunate enough to grow up on Long Island when a lot of cool bands were coming out from there, like alternative rock bands Brand New and Taking Back Sunday. While I was listening to the album, the one artist that kept being brought to mind was Bend Folds. Burke just started a month-long US tour with his explosive live band on August 5th which comes to Orlando this Wednesday, August 13th at BackBooth (WIN TICKETS BELOW).
