If you’re a fan of Julien Baker, you know her keen sense for building a song (and album) slowly, then smoothly smashing all your notions to smithereens. Her late night debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was no different.
She played the title track off her sophomore album, Turn Out The Lights, released via Matador Records, out October 28, 2017.
Baker balances modesty and tenacity, which all too often betray her small frame. Her jaw practically unhinges when she hits the second chorus. She only makes eye contact with the audience once during the whole performance. Any longer in her gaze and you would break out in hives; drive yourself crazy.
The best part is when Colbert comes over to shake her hand and she remains as humble as when she began, like she didn’t just break our hearts. Watch below.
